Flexible electricity storage power plant
Abstract from the ARAMIS database
Future electricity systems with high shares of renewables will require electricity storage. The project aims at the experimental validation of a new concept at a scale of 100 kW. It is based on a combined heat pump / power cycle. Electricity is only stored under the form of heat. In case of missing input from renewable sources, the plant can still deliver power using external heat input, e.g. combustion of biomass. The chosen size will allow for a quick commercialization addressing the market of distributed storage. Upscaling towards multi-MW size is studied conceptually.
